A long-time friend, teacher and fellow artist, Barry Roth, provided an introduction to Jeff's work:
“Jeff and I first met in college where we both studied Photographic Arts and Science at Rochester Institute of Technology. We started as picture takers but evolved into Image Makers. To fully appreciate the fine art photography of Jeff Sakoff, and the work on this site it is important to understand the context of the history of photography and the artists who have come before him. Sakoff’s work is heavily rooted in this history and draws inspiration from renown photographers, such as Edward Weston, Minor White and Aaron Siskand.
Like these photographers, Sakoff’s work, transcends being simply a document of a scene or subject. Instead, the entire frame of each photograph becomes a thing unto itself, with each image representing a single complete composition. His ability to balance the internal elements of his images is what allows him to create a poetic vision within each photograph.
When viewing Jeff’s work, it is important to approach each image as a jewel to be savored. Each photograph represents a world within a world, full of meaning and depth that can be explored through careful examination. By understanding the history of photography, and the techniques employed by artists like Weston, White and Siskand, viewers can fully appreciate the beauty and complexity of Jeff’s line of art photography.”
